Snowboarding
Snowboarding – Some say it all started in 1929 when M.J. “Jack” Burchett cut a plank of wood and secured it to his feet with some clothesline and horse reins. 35 years later, Sherman Poppen bound two skis together and called it the Snurfer. From those early years, other prominent names emerged as pioneers who furthered the snowboarding sport – Jake Burton, Dimitrije Milovich, Tom Sims and Chuck Barfoot to name a few. In 1982, the first National Snowboard race was held outside Woodstock, Vermont and snowboarding became a mainstream winter activity.
